Health Industry Cybersecurity Strategic Plan to Address Sector Cybersecurity Challenges-waukeshahealthinsurance.com

waukeshahealthinsurance-The Health and Public Health Sector Coordinating Council (HSCC) has released the Health Industry Cybersecurity Strategic Plan (HIC-SP) to guide C-suite executives, health IT leaders, and government agencies in cyber investments and implementation of critical cybersecurity goals.

This plan recognizes that cybersecurity for the healthcare sector is a shared responsibility among all industry stakeholders, including medical device manufacturers, pharmaceuticals, healthcare provider organizations, health plans and payers, and government policymakers.

HIC-SP highlights the need for high-level cybersecurity goals that can be achieved through the implementation of specific measurable objectives. This goal is aligned with the HHS 405(d) Program, HSCC, the NIST Cybersecurity Framework, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) National Cybersecurity Strategy.

The goal of HIC-SP is to improve healthcare cybersecurity from “critical” to “stable state” by 2029. The plan also calls for the creation of a cyber safety net that promotes cyber equity among healthcare organizations with limited resources, learning and implementing security workplace cyber, as well as the industry's early warning incident response and recovery system – Civil Defense Cyber 911.

"We have a responsibility to help our healthcare system overcome cyber threats, adapt to the changing threat landscape, and build a more resilient sector," said HHS Deputy Secretary Andrea Palm.

To achieve these goals, the plan emphasizes collaboration across the ecosystem to secure technology design and delivery. The plan also recognizes the significant risks that third-party technology and service providers pose to the health system.

“The plan also applies to third-party technology and service providers who continue to pose significant risks to the health system,” said Erik Decker, HSCC CWG chairman and chief information security officer for Intermountain Health.

After publishing the HIC-SP, the HSCC CWG will begin developing a set of measurable outcomes and appropriate metrics to support the success of the plan
